Ajay Castro Scholarship for Re-Entering Women

Ajay CastroCongratulations to our 2010 scholarship recipients: Ivonne Martinez, who attends the University of the Incarnate Word, and Ligia Gomez, who attends the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The San Antonio Professional Chapter of Women in Communications Ajay Castro Scholarship for Re-Entering Women was established in 1989, in honor of longtime Women in Communications member Ajay Castro, who served that year as National Professional Conference Chair. Castro, a former Women in Communications President and Headliner, focused on education during her long public relations career. She initiated Women in Communication’s participation with San Antonio Youth Literacy and created and managed the first Ford Salute to Education, an ongoing scholarship and awards program.

The scholarship is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled in or accepted by a Bexar County higher education institution following a minimum three-year lapse since graduation from high school or attending college. Applicants must plan to pursue a degree in a communications-related field. The first scholarship was awarded in 1995 at the annual Headliner/Proliner Event.

The scholarship fund is managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation. You may donate online at www.saafdn.org
