This award honors a member for outstanding service to the San Antonio chapter – Liz Wheeler, communications specialist at Catholic Life Insurance. Wheeler has served on the chapter’s board as student liaison, working with area student chapters, and as web master. |

Edna McGaffey Media Excellence - Wendy Rigby, KENS 5 San Antonio sponsored by the San Antonio Express-News – named for the late AWC member and chapter president who served as San Antonio Express-News feature writer and columnist, the award honors a proven standout in the field of communications – Wendy Rigby, KENS 5 San Antonio. As health/medical reporter for many of her 17 years at KENS, Rigby has received 52 awards for her outstanding work by numerous organizations including the Texas Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the Associated Press, and the Texas Public Health Association. |

Harriet Ross Individual Achievement – Lorenzo Nastasi, City of Balcones Heights named for the late AWC member whose career included journalism and who was an avid community volunteer, the award honors an individual whose achievements are an inspiration to others – Lorenzo Nastasi, City of Balcones Heights. With a communications career that spans cable and broadcast television, advertising, media and public relations, public speaking and writing, Nastasi continues to challenge himself, currently serving as director of visitor initiatives for Balcones Heights. |

While he has already clocked 46 years in the classroom, he is aiming for 50 because, “I get so much joy from the classroom.” |

Professional Achievement – Katie Harvey, KGB Texas Communications honors an individual, who has made a significant contribution/s to the field – Katie Harvey, president of KGB Texas Communications. Harvey built her business from the ground up and today, after 16 years in business, this public relations and advertising firm is the largest in South Texas. Clients include CPS Energy, IBC Bank, the J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and Christus Santa Rosa. |

Public Endeavor – Ruth Berggren, M.D., University of Texas Health Science Center honors an individual in the area of civic action, which impacts the community, such as government, health, welfare or environment – Ruth Berggren, M.D., director of the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Berggren lives and teaches by example, inspiring her students to become involved in their local communities and beyond. |

Volunteer Service – Rev. Marilyn Andrews, The Carol Shanklin Outreach Center honors an individual, who has made a significant contribution to advance the goals of the organization – Rev. Marilyn Andrews. For 17 years, Andrews has served as pastor of St. Joseph African Methodist Episcopal Church in East San Antonio. With her leadership, the church operates the Carol Shanklin Outreach Center, and with fewer than 50 active members, it provides rent and utility assistance to families in need. |
